A virtual machine with McServer program allows setting up your server in a matter of a few minutes. All details about the commands and programs are here: https://github.com/GameServerManagers/LinuxGSM/wiki.

To connect to the server, use login credentials from your personal account and select SSH connection. PUTTY is a perfect client program for establishing SSH connection (it can be uploaded here: https://www.putty.org/). To Install this, you need the following actions:

Open your personal account and find the necessary VPS service

Open Putty and select IP

Type in your root login and password. Please, note that when you type your password, letters and symbols aren’t displayed: it’s standard SSH protection, just continue typing and press ENTER. Otherwise, you can copy and paste the password, make CLICK RIGHT on console display and press ENTER

Paper is a high-performance fork of Spigot. It aims to fix inconsistencies between gameplay and mechanics. Paper has many unique features and changes, including many performance improvements not found in Spigot.

Install the required components

Paper requires the installation of the necessary components for its correct and fast operation. First, you need to install what is indicated by the command below:

apt-get install wget apt-transport-https gnupg

After successfully installing these components, you need to import the AdoptOpenJDK GPG key

wget -qO - https://adoptopenjdk.jfrog.io/adoptopenjdk/api/gpg/key/public | sudo apt-key add -

This is followed by setting up the appropriate repositories for this imported key:

echo "deb https://adoptopenjdk.jfrog.io/adoptopenjdk/deb $(cat /etc/os-release | grep UBUNTU_CODENAME | cut -d = -f 2) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/adoptopenjdk.list

Update your package index

apt-get update

Install AdoptOpenJDK. This can be done using the command below:

apt-get install adoptopenjdk-11-hotspot -y
apt-get install jq -y

Create a Swap file

To create a swap file. In the example, a 2 GB file is allocated, but you can set the value yourself as you like and use your resources

fallocate -l 2G /swapfile

You need to set permissions for the paging file. This can be done using the following command:

chmod 600 /swapfile

Allocate space needed for swap

mkswap /swapfile

Make your swap file permanent by modifying the fstab file

nano /etc/fstab

The final step for creating a swap file is to add a specific line to the end of the file:

/swapfile none swap sw 0 0

Install Paper

Before installing, you need to make sure that you are currently located in your home directory.

cd ~

Create a folder for Paper and download the latest build. This example downloads Paper version 1.16.5. If you need a different version, replace 1.16.5 with the version you want to download.

mkdir paper
cd paper
LATEST_BUILD = $ (curl -X GET "https://papermc.io/api/v2/projects/paper/versions/1.16.5" -H "accept: application / json" | jq '.builds [-1]' )
curl -o paperclip.jar -X GET "https://papermc.io/api/v2/projects/paper/versions/1.16.5/builds/$ {LATEST_BUILD }/downloads/paper-1.16.5-$ {LATEST_BUILD } .jar "-H" accept: application /
java-archive "-JO

Replace “BUILD_ID” in the next command with the desired assembly.

curl -o paperclip.jar -X GET "https://papermc.io/api/v2/projects/paper/versions/1.16.5/builds/ [BUILD_ID ]/downloads/paper-1.16.5- [BUILD_ID]. jar "-H" accept: application / java-archive "-JO

Start Your Server

Create a start up script – it is necessary to start your server

nano start.sh

Then you need to paste the following into start.sh. The 4G options in -Xms4G -Xmx4G configure the Java heap space for 4GB of RAM. Change this to the amount of RAM you want to allocate for Spigot. The operating system also requires available RAM, please do not assign all available RAM to Spigot. For example, if the VPS has 8GB of RAM, you might consider installing -Xms7G -Xmx7G

#!/bin/sh

Paper is a high-performance fork of Spigot. It aims to fix inconsistencies between gameplay and mechanics. Paper has many unique features and changes, including many performance improvements not found in Spigot.

Install the required components

For Debian 10, Paper requires the installation of the necessary components for its correct and fast operation.

The output will be the following:

If you need a different version, replace 1.16.5 with the version you want to download.

mkdir paper

Start Your Server

Create a start up script – it is necessary to start your server

nano start.sh

Then you need to paste the following into start.sh. The 4G options in -Xms4G -Xmx4G configure the Java heap space for 4GB of RAM.

Portainer is a versatile tool that focuses on open source container management for Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Swarm, and also Azure ACI. Thanks to this tool, you can easily deploy and manage containers without writing any code. The official website describes it as a tool that you can use to configure and manage environments, deploy applications, monitor application performance, and sort issues.
In order to install Portainer on Ubuntu 20.04, it is recommended to create a container first.

Container creation

Create a directory for portainer to store data. Then you need to create a portainer container. This can be done with the following commands:

mkdir -p /vol/portainer/data
docker run --restart always -d --name=portainer -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock -v /vol/portainer/data:/data -e VIRTUAL_HOST=port.example.com -e VIRTUAL_PORT=9000 portainer/portainer-ce -H unix:///var/run/docker.sock

After successfully creating the container, you need to configure a reverse proxy.

Configuring a Reverse Proxy for Portainer

Caddy is a lightweight ZeroSSL reverse proxy server. Caddy simplifies your infrastructure. It takes care of renewing TLS certificates, OCSP stapling, serving static files, reverse proxying, Kubernetes login and more. This means you don’t have to go through a complex HTTPS configuration, it receives and automatically maintains SSL certificates. In this tutorial, Caddy serves a very important function – it is used as a Portainer reverse proxy. To create a CaddyFile, you need to run the following command:

mkdir -p /vol/caddy/configs
nano /vol/caddy/configs/Caddyfile

Then you need to supplement with the text that is indicated below:

port.example.com {
    tls youremail@example.com
    reverse_proxy portainer:8000

Note

port.example.com { – is your domain, which has the correct DNS record for your VPS

tls youremail@example.com – applying free security certificates and using this email to get Let’s Encrypt reminders

Creating a Caddy Container

After successlully creating the CaddyFile, create a container using the following command:

docker run --restart always -d -p 80:80 -p 443:443 -v "/vol/caddy/data:/data/caddy" -v "/vol/caddy/configs:/etc/caddy" --link portainer --name caddy caddy

Note

-v “/ vol / caddy / data: / data / caddy” it’s a mount the caddy working directory on your host to save data such as certificates

–link portainer to link the caddy container, the portainer so they can access each other

Installation of Portainer

Visit your domain in a web browser and set your appropriate password. After that, it is assumed that the installation is complete

Spigot is a modification of the Minecraft CraftBukkit server software. It is very well compatible with most CraftBukkit mods to make your server unique. This article will help you install Spigot correctly and quickly for your server on Debian 10

Installing the Necessary Utilities

Having installed the necessary utilities, first you need to start transport-https. This can be accomplished with the following command:

apt-get install wget apt-transport-https gnupg

This is followed by spoiling the AdoptOpenJDK GPG key. This can be done using wget:

wget -qO - https://adoptopenjdk.jfrog.io/adoptopenjdk/api/gpg/key/public | sudo apt-key add -

Set up a suitable AdoptOpenJDK repository using the command below:

echo "deb https://adoptopenjdk.jfrog.io/adoptopenjdk/deb $(cat /etc/os-release | grep UBUNTU_CODENAME | cut -d = -f 2) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/adoptopenjdk.list

After that, it is recommended to update Debian packages:

apt-get update

Then install AdoptOpenJDK using the following command:

apt-get install adoptopenjdk-11-hotspot -y

Spigot is a modification of the Minecraft CraftBukkit server software. It is very well compatible with most CraftBukkit mods to make your server unique. This article will help you install Spigot correctly and quickly for your server on Debian 10

Installing the Necessary Utilities

Having installed the necessary utilities, first you need to start transport-https. This can be accomplished with the following command:

apt install wget apt-transport-https gnupg

This is followed by spoiling the AdoptOpenJDK GPG key. This can be done using wget:

wget -qO - https://adoptopenjdk.jfrog.io/adoptopenjdk/api/gpg/key/public | sudo apt-key add -

Set up a suitable AdoptOpenJDK repository using the command below:

echo "deb https://adoptopenjdk.jfrog.io/adoptopenjdk/deb $(cat /etc/os-release | grep UBUNTU_CODENAME | cut -d = -f 2) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/adoptopenjdk.list

After that, it is recommended to update Debian packages:

apt update

Then install AdoptOpenJDK using the following command:

apt install adoptopenjdk-11-hotspot -y

Create a Swap file

To create a swap file. In the example, a 2 GB file is allocated, but you can set the value yourself as you like and use your resources

fallocate -l 2G /swapfile

You need to set permissions for the paging file. This can be done using the following command:

chmod 600 /swapfile

Allocate space needed for swap

mkswap /swapfile

Make your swap file permanent by modifying the fstab file

nano /etc/fstab

The final step for creating a swap file is to add a specific line to the end of the file:

/swapfile none swap sw 0 0

Downloading and Running BuildTools

Make sure you are in the correct directory as Spigot was installed

cd ~

Then you need to create a dedicated folder for Spigot. Below we are talking about Spigot, which is loaded in version 1.16.5.

mkdir buildtools && cd buildtools
wget -O BuildTools.jar https://hub.spigotmc.org/jenkins/job/BuildTools/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/target/BuildTools.jar
$ java -jar BuildTools.jar --rev 1.16.5

Please, Note of the name of your spigot jar file. For example spigot-1.16.5.jar

ls

Create a directory for your server

cd ~ && mkdir server && cd server

Move the jar with faucet to your server directory. Then you need to replace spigotname.jar with your file name

mv ~/buildtools/spigotname.jar ~/server/spigot.jar

Start Your Server

Create a start up script – it is necessary to start your server

nano start.sh

Then you need to paste the following into start.sh. The 4G options in -Xms4G -Xmx4G configure the Java heap space for 4GB of RAM. Change this to the amount of RAM you want to allocate for Spigot. The operating system also requires available RAM, please do not assign all available RAM to Spigot. For example, if the VPS has 8GB of RAM, you might consider installing -Xms7G -Xmx7G

#!/bin/sh
while true
do
java -Xms4G -Xmx4G -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:+ParallelRefProcEnabled -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=200 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:G1NewSizePercent=30 -XX:G1MaxNewSizePercent=40 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=8M -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:G1HeapWastePercent=5 -XX:G1MixedGCCountTarget=4 -XX:InitiatingHeapOccupancyPercent=15 -XX:G1MixedGCLiveThresholdPercent=90 -XX:G1RSetUpdatingPauseTimePercent=5 -XX:SurvivorRatio=32 -XX:+PerfDisableSharedMem -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=1 -Dusing.aikars.flags=https://mcflags.emc.gs -Daikars.new.flags=true -jar spigot.jar nogui
echo "restarting in 10"
sleep 10
done

Make start.sh executable

chmod +x start.sh

The first time it loads, it prompts you to accept the EULA and fails to load. The script then loops, and you need to type CTRL + C to exit the script at this point. Edit eula.txt.

nano eula.txt

Change eula= from false to true. Save and exit the file. Then, after successfully saving, start your server

./start.sh

Starbound is a special game. Before you can install this game, you need to have a Starbound account. This tutorial is focused on the Ubuntu 18.04 operating system. Before installing, you should update the packages:

yum update
yum upgrade -y

Installing Starbound

You can install Starbound using the following command:

adduser starbound
passwd starbound

Then you need to open the required firewall port:

firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=21025/tcp --permanent
firewall-cmd --reload

You will need the system libraries to install correctly. They are essential for running StreamCMD. Enter the following command:

yum install glibc.i686 libstdc++.i686 -y

Next, you should switch to the entry that you created earlier:

su starbound
cd ~

It is imperative to install the StreamCMD software. Installation can be done using the following program:

wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd_linux.tar.gz
tar xf steamcmd_linux.tar.gz

After successful installation, StreamCMD will be used to install the required files on your game server. You need to check your sweat drawer for a login code. There should be an output like this:

./steamcmd.sh
login YourAccount
*input password and steam guard code*

force_install_dir ./starbound
app_update 211820 validate

Next, a following message will appear on the screen:

Success! App ‘211820’ fully installed.

This means that you just need to type quit and press ENTER.

Server Configuring

You can configure the server by editing the sbboot.config file. Changes should only be made after a colon:

nano ~/starbound/linux64/sbboot.config

On line 47 change A Starbound Server to the desired server name, then on line 48 change 8 to the desired number of slots.

Server Upgrade Using the Starbound

First you need to create a special file update_starbound.txt

nano /home/starbound/update_starbound.txt

After successfully creating this file, you need to fill it in. Copy and paste the following:

login YourAccount YourPassword
force_install_dir ./starbound
app_update 211820
quit

Please note that when updating the server, you may have Steam Guard enabled, you will need to enter the code again during the update process. The code will look like this:

cd ~ && ./steamcmd.sh +runscript update_starbound.txt

Starting your server

To start the server, you need to do the following:

cd /home/starbound/starbound/linux64
